Please note!!

 

The Seahorse Key/Cedar Keys Light Station Open Houses will happen as planned; however . . .
Seahorse Key’s waterfront is being rebuilt and will most likely be under construction for the 15 and 29 March Open Houses.
The floating dock or the smaller eastern dock will be available for one vessel at a time to pick up and drop off only.
There will be no vessel tie-up spaces and the bulk of the waterfront area and the open air pavilion will most likely be “Caution” taped off.  
This is completely out of the Refuge’s and the University’s hands.
Please plan accordingly.

Seahorse Key Open House Schedule for 2023

 

The Refuge has scheduled five Open Houses at Seahorse Key for 2023.

Wednesday, March 29 (rain date March 30 or 31)

Saturday, July 1
Friday, October 13 (rain date October 14)

Friday, November 10 (rain date November 11)

 

Visitors can walk up to to the Light Station and cross over to the beach on the far side of the island. It is a beautiful, adventuresome experience.
 

Open Houses are free once you arrive at the Refuge island. However, visitors must arrange their own transportation. Shuttles are provided for a fee by tour companies in Cedar Key, or visitors can arrive by private boat.

Important Information

Seahorse Key is an island almost 3 miles from Cedar Key. Access is only by boat. There are no amenities, such as food or water on the island. Rest room facilities are limited. 

Should there be a medical or other emergency requiring professional assistance or evacuation, response times could be lengthy.
Please plan with this in mind.
